In a Honest Statement, The Honorable Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland security, expressed the frustration. Many clients feel with the length of time it takes to process immigration matters. It is important to understand the administrative environment in which this work is performed. On March 1, 2021, incoming Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), The Hon. Alejandro Mayorkas, made the following statement which confirms what many of us within the immigration system have known for the last 4 years:
"I think it is important to understand what we have inherited, because it defines the situation as it currently stands. Entire systems are not rebuilt in a day or in a few weeks. To put it succinctly, the prior administration dismantled our nation’s immigration system in its entirety."
This statement fairly applies to all federal departments involved in the immigration process.
The Secretary has acknowledged what many of us had assumed to be true under the previous Trump Administration. The Timeline to correct and rebuilt the essential agencies will take some time, considering the issues surrounding COVID and other major issues facing the United States today.
