Mayorkas would be the first immigrant american to serve in the role of DHS Secretary. He and his family came to the United States as refugees after fleeing Cuba in 1960. Secretary Mayorkas previously served as the DHS Deputy Secretary under president Obama's Second Term. Prior to holding that position, he was the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
It is safe to say that this appointment is fitting to the roles and reasonability that secretary Mayorkas will fulfill. His experience and immigrant background is a welcome and refreshing addition to President Biden Administration and Immigration Advocates.
